Beautiful views must be something that most people appreciate. And in Budapest, you will have every possibility to find these. Here, I have made a list of my top 3 places to enjoy the view of the city.
The Danube River runs through the entire city, and that means that Budapest is a city with a lot of bridges. The probably most well known one must be the Chain Bridge, which is also one of the major attractions of the city. A lot of people go for a stroll across the bridge, and it is clear to see why if you do the same.
The bridge in itself is very pretty with a lot of details to notice on the way. Besides this, you can stop to enjoy the view of both the Buda- and Pest-side of the city – and of course all the boats that go underneath the bridge. Just remember to watch where you are going, cause you share the road with bicycles, and they don’t really appreciate pedestrians stopping everywhere! If you would like to see the bridge from a different angle, you can join a boat trip on Danube River.
Citadella on Gellert Hill
From home I had heard good things about a short, but steep, hike up Gellert Hill to Citadella, where you should be able to enjoy the most wonderful views of the city. It does take a little bit of time and effort to go up hill, but you will have a good excuse to take a break – you will have take a picture of the beautiful view along the way. And another one. And another one.
When you reach the top you are rewarded with a view that I think is worth the struggle. It is clear to see how Danube River meanders through the city, and you have a nice lookout to some of the many bridges that connect the two parts of Budapest.
It doesn’t get more like a fairy tale than this! Fisherman’s Bastion looks most of all like a fairy tale castle, and from here you will have the most wonderful view over Pest and the Parliament just across Danube.
With the beautiful towers and the many carvings it is a great place to enjoy both the impressive building and the view of the city. At the same time it is one of the most visited places in Budapest, so don’t expect to have it all to yourself. But I still believe that there is view enough for everyone. At least that was my experience when visiting.
One of the best parts about views is that photographs just don’t give them justice. Views are always better when you experience them yourself. If you have already visited the city, you might have some of your own favorite viewpoints?
