Hotel review:
Since we only visited Edinburgh for a few couple of days on a weekend break, we chose to prioritize a very central location. In my search for the perfect place, I stumbled upon the aparthotel, Princes Street Suites, and this was a good choice for us, as we traveled 5 persons together. This way nobody had to enjoy the experience of sleeping in a cramped room with an extra bed, and no one had to spend lonely nights in a single room at a regular hotel.
Location
As the name indicates, Princes Street Suites is located at one end of Princes Street, which is one of the central streets in Edinburgh. Within a short distance you find Waverly Station and several bus- and tram stops. There is a very easy access to the airport, and if your legs are up for it, you live within walking distance from most of the sights in the City Center. With just a 5-10 minutes walk to the Royal Mile, it does not get any more central – and that is an advantage when you want to see all the city has to offer in a very short amount of time.
Our apartment
The building, in which the aparthotel is located, does not look like much from the outside, but we were pleasantly surprised as we entered our apartment.
We booked an apartment with three bedrooms, and we did not have to worry about whether it would be large enough to accommodate the five of us. The living room was large with both a dining table and a seating area.
The kitchen was fine. Nothing to brag about, but it had both a oven, refrigerator, freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. Besides this, the cupboards were filled with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk and cookies for us as a welcome snack. There even was a dishwasher, and that we immediately used to clean the sort-of-greasy plates, before we started using them.
The three bedrooms all had a good size, and there was plenty of room to store our suitcases. The only negative thing I can think about in regard to the bedrooms must be the double duvets provided. I will never learn to love that, but it is apparently very common outside Denmark. One must wonder…
Finally, the apartment had not only one, but two bathrooms! Extremely practical when traveling in a group! The bathrooms were clean and modern.
On the top of the aparthotel, you find a roof terrace with tables and benches. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the view from here, so it is a great place to sit down and relax after a day full of experiences. Maybe you’re even lucky enough to enjoy the sun, if it decides to come out.
The service at the aparthotel
Even though you live in an apartment, there is cleaning every day. They also provide free WiFi everywhere. The staff is very helpful – both before and during the stay. Before arrival we sent a few questions on e-mail, and they were answered immediately, and during our stay the staff gladly helped us to make reservations at restaurants and attractions.
It is not possible to buy breakfast on site, but there are supermarkets nearby, so you can make your own breakfast buffet with all of your favorites. If you are not keen on cooking in the morning, there are plenty of restaurants in the city that serves breakfast.
All in all
Princes Street Suites is a lovely aparthotel that I will recommend to others. The only negative thing I can think about is the greasy plates in the kitchen that we had to wash upon arrival. Otherwise, this was a perfect place for us on our long weekend in Edinburgh.
They offer everything from studio apartments to three-bedroom apartments. The price will of course vary dependent on which type you choose to stay in. Read more and check availability and prices on the hotel website. This is where I found the best price.
